UNE CHRONIQUE AMÉRICAINE

2023 - DCP - 66’ - couleur/noir et blanc - 5.1 - Prod. Apatom - Acqua Alta

An American chronicle tells the story of a film that the Italian filmmaker Michelangelo Antonioni twice tried to make from a screenplay co-written with Rudy Wurlitzer (screenwriter for Sam Peckinpah, Bernardo Bertolucci and Monte Hellman). This screenplay has never been published, unlike the rest of the filmmaker's written work. The specialist press and film historians make no mention of it either. This adventure therefore remains completely unknown. In this way, An American Chronicle reveals a forgotten aspect of the work of one of the most influential directors of 20th-century cinematic modernity.

In a hybrid form that blends documentary and narrative in the future tense, An American Chronicle weaves together the threads of an aborted cinematic adventure, the mythology of 1970s America and an existential drift.

LES POUSSIERES

2023 - DCP - 69’ - couleur/noir et blanc - 5.1 - Prod. Acqua Alta

Commissioned by a regional planning delegation to conduct a public opinion survey, Pierre Montieu returns to the place where he grew up, in the Karl Marx housing estate in Bobigny, just as its tower blocks are being demolished. There he meets a young woman of Russian origin, Ania Ivanova, who brings back memories of his mother, once a stewardess on the Paris/Moscow airline. The beginnings of love are quickly replaced by disenchantment in the tumult of the building sites.

Or a suburban adaptation of Fyodor Dostoyevsky's novella ‘The Sweet One’.

Aurelia Nuto, an actress, has an audition in a large bare room. When asked to relate the events of the previous day, she finds herself rapidly at a loss for words, unable to make sense or even remember the flow of insignificance.

Alone in his hotel room, Jean-Claude Thorens, a writer, reads the manuscript of the novel he has just finished, an adaptation of the Orpheus myth.

In London, Naples and Paris human beings meet without ever finding each other, as if the distance between them was never right. This is the story of brief encounters in which fiction and  reality blend in a continuous stream of solitude.
