Jean-Claude Taki lives and works in Paris.

Initially a musician, he simultaneously began directing short films, most of which received awards both in France and abroad, before directing his first feature film (AURORE / Number 9). In 2005, and for the following five years, under the initiative of the Forum des Images in Paris, he continued his work as a filmmaker, further exploring formal and narrative experimentation using a mobile phone as a recording device. His films have been screened both in cinemas and art centers [LACDA (Los Angeles Center of Digital Art) / Museum of Contemporary Art – Washington DC, Centre Pompidou – Paris, among others].

The Open Cinema Festival in Saint Petersburg, the Forum des Images in Paris, and the Côté Court Festival in Pantin dedicated special programs to his work in 2008, 2010, and 2012, respectively.

In 2007 and 2013, he published two novels with Éditions Intervalles, LETTRES KAZAKHES and SOTCHI INVENTAIRE, as well as an illustrated poetry book, SOTCHI POUR MÉMOIRE, in collaboration with Guillaume Reynard.

In February 2010, he presented AUTOPORTRAIT 365 as part of the group exhibition Le réel, nouvel opium ?, curated by “Est-ce une bonne nouvelle” at Galerie Les Filles du Calvaire – Paris.

In March 2012, SOTCHI 255 was released in theaters.

In March 2013, he held the exhibition HORIZON // TALES with Guillaume Reynard at the Alma Ata Art Center and the French Consulate in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

From 2014 to 2016, Jean-Claude Taki was filmmaker-in-residence at Espace Khiasma, Les Lilas, as part of the La Fabrique Phantom program, supported by the Département de la Seine-Saint-Denis, the city of Bobigny, and the National Audiovisual Institute (INA).

In 2024, his film LES POUSSIÈRES, starring Marc Barbé, Ania Svétovoya, and Cédric Kahn, was released in theaters on March 20.

In 2025, UNE CHRONIQUE AMÉRICAINE is set for theatrical release on June 18.
